2008
The Striving Readers program did not hold a competition for new grant awards in 2008. The 2008 appropriation for Striving Readers was increased by approximately $5 million dollars. Any funds that remain from the 2008 appropriation will be competed in 2009.
2007
The Striving Readers program will not hold a competition for new grant awards in 2007. The 2007 appropriation for Striving Readers was approximately the same as it was in 2006. Consequently, 2007 funds are being used to make continuation awards to the eight projects first funded in 2006. The 2007 funds will support the second year of program implementation in the eight sites.
2006
Striving Readers was first funded in FY 2005. A competition for grant awards was held in 2005 with applications due November 14, 2005 and awards made March 1, 2006. The application package for the 2005-06 competition continues to be available here as a source of information about the requirements and goals of the Striving Readers program.
