Even Start Statewide Family Literacy Initiative Project Goals
- To establish and maintain the Arkansas Even Start Statewide Family Literacy Collaborative to coordinate, focus, and extend local family literacy services and resources
- To adopt a system of quality performance indicators for assessment, assimilation, monitoring and evaluation of Arkansas Even Start and family literacy services
- To provide training for local service providers and communities to enable quality and sustainable family literacy programs
- To facilitate the brokerage of Arkansas Even Start and family literacy services through service providers and local communities, including Head Start, State-funded day care providers, adult education, etc.
- To evaluate and make policy recommendations for Statewide services
Project Description
Arkansas plans to compile indicators from all entities providing a component of family literacy services, agree to those which reflect cross-agency needs, modify them to be useful for evaluation across programs, and develop a monitoring scale which rates the implementation of the indicators. The indicators will serve as the focus for professional development, first in three pilot sites and then Statewide. The initiative plans to develop a system to identify gaps in programming and link providers of family literacy services with those seeking them.
