Program Description

The Fund for Improvement of Education (FIE), which is authorized by section 5411 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), supports nationally significant programs to improve the quality of elementary and secondary education at the State and local levels and help all children meet challenging academic content and achievement standards. The Full-Service Community Schools program, which is being carried out under FIE, encourages coordination of educational, developmental, family, health, and other services through partnerships between (1) public elementary and secondary schools and (2) community-based organizations and public/private ventures. Such collaboration will provide comprehensive educational, social, and health services for students, families, and communities.
