Objectives: For participants/staff to understand: practice self-help and mutual help; positive role modeling; social learning vs. classroom learning; upward mobility and the privilege system; the concept of no ?We-They? dichotomy; the concept of ?Acting as if;? the relation between belonging and individuality; the need for a belief system within community; and group process.
Procedures: All individuals will participate in an organized an planned program including an individual treatment plan monitored by a counselor and a three-phase peer review program.
Outcomes/Results/Products: Higher level of self esteem measured through testing; 25% reduction in incidence of reincarceration measured between graduates of program and control group; 100% higher length of time before re-arrest between graduates and control group; 100% more of project participants than control group will be employed in stable jobs by comparison; and 100% more of project participants than control group will have established credit by measure of credit history.
