Crossing the Mississippi River twice to speak to large, enthusiastic audiences of students and adults in four states, Secretary Riley concluded his America Goes Back To School bus tour speaking to over 300 people at a community breakfast in Union City, Tennessee. U. S. Representative John Tanner talked about the important role the federal government can play "to improve education by reducing class size in the early years." The Union City school district has used $45,000 in federal funding from the President's Class Size Reduction program to reduce third-grade class size at a local elementary school from 24 to 20 students.
