DATE: August 29, 2000 Secretary Riley visited an innovative Algebra Project class at Simmons High School in Hollandale that allowed students at Simmons High and Lanier High School in Jackson take part in a distance-learning mathematics lesson involving the graphic calculator. In addition, students from the Algebra Project performed a "prime numbers rap" for Secretary Riley. While at Simmons, Secretary Riley and Mississippi Chief State School Officer Richard Thompson announced the expansion of ExplorNet's flagship program - Computer Recycling - from a pilot program at Hollandale to a statewide initiative. Secretary Riley's made an unplanned stop at Ray Brooks Elementary School in Benoit, Mississippi when he saw a group of flag-waving children standing outside in the hot sun to meet the Success Express. "We had to stop and say hello to the children," explained Secretary Riley later at a community luncheon in Rosedale. Photos
