Secretary Riley visited an innovative Algebra Project class at Simmons High School in Hollandale that allowed students at Simmons High and Lanier High School in Jackson take part in a distance-learning mathematics lesson involving the graphic calculator. In addition, students from the Algebra Project performed a "prime numbers rap" for Secretary Riley.

While at Simmons, Secretary Riley and Mississippi Chief State School Officer Richard Thompson announced the expansion of ExplorNet's flagship program - Computer Recycling - from a pilot program at Hollandale to a statewide initiative.

Secretary Riley's made an unplanned stop at Ray Brooks Elementary School in Benoit, Mississippi when he saw a group of flag-waving children standing outside in the hot sun to meet the Success Express. "We had to stop and say hello to the children," explained Secretary Riley later at a community luncheon in Rosedale.
