The Success Express, accompanied by Fulton County Public Schools Superintendent Charles Holiday and a group of school children, crossed the Mississippi River from Kentucky to Missouri aboard the Hickman-Dorena Ferry. Secretary Riley visited the Warren E. Hearnes Elementary School in Charleston.. He was joined by Missouri Governor Mel Carnahan, Chief State School Officer Kent King, and former Governor Warren Hearnes - the individual the school is named after. Addressing a gathering of more than 200 students, parents and educators, the secretary referred to the song lyrics of performer Kathy Mattea.
