DATE: August 30, 2000 Secretary Riley spoke at two community events in Blytheville. He joined a panel discussion at That Bookstore in Blytheville and spoke at a community supper at East Junior High School. The Secretary challenged the critics of public education to turn their negative rhetoric into positive action by becoming tutors or mentors in their local schools. He summarized some of the effective practices that he saw in schools in the Delta and restated his support for increasing the federal investment in education for reducing class size and modernizing school buildings.
