Currently, the Institute is supporting two (2) Phase I projects that develop technologies to support learning, and cognitive and social development particularly of young children and students placed at risk of school failure.

Project Title: Virtual Reality Performance Assessments for
International Mathematics Standards

Alpine Media proposes to prepare interactive CD-ROM scenario-based exercises in mathematics. On-line multimedia performance assessments will be delivered while the student is interacting with the software program. Phase I results will show whether international mathematics standards can be met through teaching of performance-based assessments of mathematical skills.

Project Title: Z and Me, Science Solvers

Optimal Analysis proposes an interactive computer game to help at-risk students maintain interest in science and develop confidence in their ability to understand and apply science concepts. Phase I research will provide information on the most effective teaching approach, science content and game style that best meets the needs of this target group.
