Emerging Research Findings:Connection Between Education and WorkMaking the Transition: Work Experiences After High SchoolFindings suggest that the work experiences of most recent high school graduates, whether enrolled in a postsecondary institution or working full-time, mirrors the same type of work experiences obtained by high school students. Building on a rich longitudinal data base, this Field Initiated Studies (FIS) project describes the type of paid work experiences recent high school graduates have, including those who enter the labor force full-time, and those who attend postsecondary institutions. Qualitative and quantitative results indicate that most work experiences are problematic because they fail to provide young people with the cognitive and social skillls that they could potentially use to obtain more stable long-term employment.
