State and Local Services Division (SLSD) State and Local Services Division (SLSD)

MISSION

The State and Local Services Division (SLSD) provides leadership in building a national assistance infrastructure of local, state, regional and national partners that works collaboratively to facilitate educational reform and improvement.

The Division promotes stronger links and connections between state and local reform initiatives and sources of assistance that are anchored in research and best practice, and builds an infrastructure that offers educators the skills and knowledge they need to serve as catalysts for positive change. The Division also strengthens the capacities of the Office of Educational Research and Improvement (OERI), the programs funded by OERI, and the relevant programs funded by the Department to mount coordinated responses to the needs of states and localities engaged in school reform.

The SLSD coordinates an array of services, including training, applied research, development, dissemination, technical assistance, and evaluation, that are available to state and local education agencies and organizations through OERI-supported legislated programs. In addition to identifying and synthesizing information on proven and promising programs and practices and targeting information to parents, teachers, policy makers, and administrators, the Division provides support for their selection and use.

SLSD supports the following programs:
