The Policy Forum is a newsletter published twice annually by the National Institute on Educational Governance, Finance, Policymaking, and Management. It features articles that summarize important research findings, discuss their significance and utility, and provide sources for more information on the topics. It also keeps its readers abreast of research grants made, upcoming grant competitions, national policy initiatives, and other news of interest.

Perspectives on Education Policy Research

The Perspectives on Education Policy Research is a series of publications produced by the National Institute on Educational Governance, Finance, Policymaking, and Management. Their purpose is to identify research with short-term and long-term consequences for policymakers and educators that will help them design, implement, and sustain effective education reforms.

Policy Brief: Effective Leaders for Today's Schools: Synthesis of a Policy Forum on Educational Leadership (June 1999)
Summarizes ideas and suggestions raised by the participants of the 1998 Policy Forum on Educational Leadership convened by the National Institute on Educational, Governance, Finance, Policymaking, and Management. The Forum is meant as a starting point for further actions to improve leadership in U.S. schools.
Policy Brief: What the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) Means for Systemic School Improvement (November 1998)
Educators, policymakers and researchers from the local, state and national levels gathered to consider how the results of the Third International Mathematics and Science Study could spark reform of American education. Their conclusions provide a thoughtful framework for anyone interested in furthering that reform effort.
Meeting the Information Needs of Education Policymakers: Perspectives on Education Policy Research (August 1997)
Summarizes what policymakers have said are the most critical issues and research needs facing them in the field of education. It is based on the views of the policymakers and leaders themselves, as expressed at a planning forum sponsored by the National Institute on Educational Governance, Finance, Policymaking, and Management and in papers commissioned for that forum.

Other Publications

The Charter School Roadmap(September 1998) is intended for legislators and policymakers who are interested in charter schools. This publication is a mapping of the charter school landscape that will guide them as they initiate charter school legislation or evaluate existing charter school legislation and policies.
