National Research & Development Centers

A major component of the Institute is the National Research and Development Center program. Currently, the National Institute on Educational Governance, Finance, Policymaking, and Management supports the following R & D centers:
The Consortium for Policy Research in Education (CPRE) is being supported by the Institute to conduct a five-year coherent program of research and development on Increasing the Effectiveness of State and Local Education Reform Efforts. The Consortium unites five of the nation's leading research institutions to improve student learning through research on education policy, governance, and finance. Members of the Consortium are the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University, Stanford University, the University of Michigan, and the University of Wisconsin at Madison. The Center's research focuses on increasing the effectiveness of state and local education reform efforts and addresses issues such as: capacity and incentives for education reform, state and local policy making, education governance, school finance, teacher compensation, and student incentives. Center for the Study of Teaching and Policy (CTP)
The Center for the Study of Teaching and Policy (CTP) is a consortium of 5 research universities including University of Washington, Stanford University, Teachers College/Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, and University of Michigan. CTP was funded in October 1997 by the Institute to conduct a 5-year research program on a range of policy issues associated with achieving the goal of teaching excellence and the effects that such policies have on continuous school improvement, teacher performance, and student learning.
