- Tools for Schools: School Reform Models Supported by the National Institute on the Education of At-Risk Students (April 1998) provides information for improving the performance of schools with significant at-risk student populations. It contains information about 27 school reform models that have received support for development, expansion, adaptation, or evaluation through the Institute's research program. Each model description gives a fairly in-depth view of what is required for a school to implement the model and identifies contact persons and other sources that may be accessed for additional information.
- Class Size and Students At Risk: What is Known? What Is Next? (April 1998) reviews research on class size, discusses approaches taken to assess the costs and benefits of reducing class size, and explores implications of smaller classes for classroom management and instructional strategies, particularly for students at risk.
- Family Involvement in Children's Education: Successful Local Approaches (October 1997) identifies and describes successful strategies used by 20 local Title I programs that have overcome barriers to parent involvement. This publication suggests ways that schools, families, and communities can work together to build strong partnerships. Although the most appropriate strategy for a particular community will depend on local interests, needs, and resources, successful approaches to promoting family involvement in the education of their children share an emphasis on innovation and flexibility.
- Reaching All Families: Creating Family-Friendly Schools (August 1996) presents accumulated knowledge and fresh ideas on school outreach strategies. With them, schools can reach out to all families and help involve them in their children's education.
