Project Description: Effective Middle Schools for Disadvantaged Students: Theory, Evidence, and Practice is bringing together in a single comprehensive volume all of the Center's work to date on effective middle schools for disadvantaged students. The volume will have two major parts: one devoted to the human climate of good middle schools and one focused on the instructional activities and incentives that work best for students and teachers in the middle grades. Each part is designed to have separate chapters on the conceptual theory underlying most effective approaches, on the empirical evidence to support sources and forms of best practices, and on practical materials and methods for implementing recommended approaches.
