A r c h i v e d I n f o r m a t i o nCurrent ProjectsInformation Collection ProjectImproving the Flow of InformationThe Department also is reaching out to the states and teachers to help solve a decades-old problem: the time-consuming and cumbersome process of collecting and sharing data. Working with states and groups across the country, the Department plans to use the power of technology to improve the flow of information among states, teachers and the federal government. The new systems and special databases will mean that states will have to collect data just once — instead of time after time for one project after another. With the new IM processes advocated by the Department, data will be efficiently processed and shared so that states will find out important information about their schools in months-instead of years. The new data will be relevant and current — so that tomorrow, a principal in Spokane, WA, can make a more informed decision about the educational programs at her school, and a teacher in Dallas can understand and reach her students even more effectively.
