The White House Press Office yesterday announced that President Bush has sent to the Senate the nomination of Gerald Reynolds to be assistant secretary of education for civil rights.
Regarding the nomination, U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige said, "I congratulate Jerry Reynolds on his formal nomination. President Bush has selected a highly qualified and skilled attorney with a longstanding interest in education and commitment to improving opportunities for America's students.
"Jerry will be responsible for ensuring that our civil rights laws are enforced. He has the background and skill to enforce effectively the civil rights laws, regulations and policies that are the responsibility of the Department of Education.
"Jerry will offer dedicated service to the Department of Education and he will work to support President Bush's plans for making the American system of education one that offers every child a chance to succeed."
