To Our Invited Guests:
We are honored and delighted to welcome you to the White House Summit on Early Childhood Cognitive Development. Children are our greatest national resource, and providing them with the foundations for learning is one of our highest national priorities. As your hosts, we hope that you will find our time together to be helpful and informative. You will hear from some of America's most respected and innovative researchers in the field of cognitive development, as well as those who have put that research into practice with great results.
During our Thursday session, you will hear from leaders in government and academia as well as from practitioners about how we can promote research-based activities for our youngest children to prepare them for academic success in our elementary and secondary schools. On Friday, we will continue that discussion about the latest research and also explore opportunities for creating partnerships and other means for delivering information about the development of strong cognitive skills through preschool programs, in the home environment, and in other venues for learning.
We already know a great deal about how we can provide children from all racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds with the skills and knowledge they need to prepare them for success in our elementary and secondary schools. We also know that too many homes and too many classrooms around the country do not have the information to take advantage of the latest research. We hope that this summit will help us to begin the process of building bridges of opportunity between the research and the children who will most benefit from it.
We thank you for joining us, and we thank Georgetown University for making their excellent facilities available for this important meeting.
Sincerely,
Laura Bush
