The U.S. Department of Education has awarded 16 Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) grants, totaling more than $24 million, to local education agencies and community-based organizations to implement comprehensive, integrated physical activity and nutrition programs for their students.

The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Healthy Students today awarded Flint Community Schools in Flint, Michigan a Project School Emergency Response to Violence (SERV) grant totaling $480,000. The grant will be used to restore the learning environment following the water crisis that began in 2014 that left residents with lead-contaminated drinking water.

The U.S. Department of Education today announced a one-year extension of New Hampshire’s existing competency-based assessment pilot to include a total of nine districts across the state. The U.S. Department of Education today announced a $2 million grant to the University of Minnesota’s National Center on Educational Outcomes (NCEO) to support states and local school districts in increasing participation and improving results for children with disabilities in state and districtwide academic assessments.
