U.S. Department of Education Awards Twelve Grants to Help Low-Income Students Participate and Succeed in Advanced Placement Courses

The U.S. Department of Education announced today that 12 states and local school districts will receive Advanced Placement Incentives Program grants to help low-income students have greater access to advanced placement courses and to succeed in those courses. The Education Department will award a total of $6.6 million for 2011. These competitive grants are awarded to promising programs, which will help increase student access to rigorous courses in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. All of the grants include at least one persistently lowest-achieving school.
