Today, the Department of Education released a public service announcement (PSA) by President Obama illustrating his support of the TEACH initiative. The President and U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan launched TEACH last September as a national initiative aimed at recruiting the next generation of amazing teachers. TEACH is dedicated to inspiring America's best and brightest to consider becoming teachers, and to celebrate America's great teachers.
The President's PSA contributes to a catalogue of supporters who have recorded PSAs in support of TEACH, including Director of Domestic Policy Council Melody Barnes, Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden and Secretary of Energy Steven Chu and can be viewed HERE. Educational advocates and celebrities like Bill Gates, John Legend, and Oprah Winfrey have also vocalized their support for the campaign.
The website www.TEACH.gov is the platform for this effort and hosts information about the teaching profession, teaching positions open across the country, and testimonials from teachers, celebrities, and leaders alike celebrating the teaching profession. The TEACH campaign has also held Town Hall recruitment events across the country at different high schools and universities to directly encourage students to become teachers.
