Education Secretary Arne Duncan Issues Statement on the Senate's Jobs Amendment Vote
U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan issued the following statement after the Senate voted today to move forward on an amendment to protect the jobs of educators:
"I am grateful for the support of 61 senators who voted to advance consideration of the amendment to support jobs for America's teachers. We estimate that hundreds of thousands of teachers will lose their jobs if Congress doesn't act.
"The Senate amendment will go a long way to protecting these jobs and ensuring that America's educators are working to educate our way to a better economy. I look forward to working with members of the House and Senate to ensure passage of this bill. It's the right thing to do for America's students and America's teachers."
