US-Born Latinos Face College Challenges
US-born children of Hispanic immigrants, Latinos, enroll in college at about the same rates as Caucasians, but face challenges that could mean they are less likely to earn degrees. According to a report from the Pew Hispanic Center, Latinos tend to be older when they enroll in postsecondary education, more often enroll part-time while working or caring for families, and may graduate from less rigorous high schools. Recommendations to policymakers included helping Latino students stay enrolled and increasing their numbers in postsecondary schools.
