No Child Left Behind's Billion Dollar Investment to Help Children Learn to Read
President Bush's proposed FY 2004 budget provides $1.05 billion for Reading First State Grants and $100 million for Early Reading First. These two No Child Left Behind programs help states use scientifically proven methods to teach reading skills to young children. The goal is to have every child in America reading at grade level.
Earlier today, Reading First Director Chris Doherty announced the approval of a Reading First grant to benefit the children of Nevada. http://www.ed.gov/PressReleases/04-2003/04102003.html
