'National Conversations' on English Learner Education to Begin Thursday in Dallas, Chicago

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced a series of "National Conversations on English Learner Education" designed to learn what's working and what needs improvement in the instruction of students with limited English skills. Senior U.S. education officials will be on hand for interactive meetings in six cities, beginning Thursday and Friday in Dallas and Chicago.

Department Official to Visit Students in 61st Class of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy

Jim Shelton, assistant deputy secretary for the Office of Innovation and Improvement, will visit the 61st class of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) in Ft. Bliss, Texas on Tuesday, Feb. 8 to talk about education issues for the children of military families. The academy’s students are enlisted military sergeants who are being prepared for the highest enlisted rank, Sergeant Major.

Rehabilitation Services Commissioner to Address Randolph-Sheppard Vendor Conference in Las Vegas

Lynnae Ruttledge, commissioner of the U.S. Department of Education's Rehabilitation Services Administration, will deliver the keynote address at the Randolph-Sheppard Vendors of America's 2011 Annual Sagebrush National Training Conference Tuesday in Las Vegas. Education Secretary to Encourage More Pathways, Partnerships for Career and Technical Education

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will underscore the need for major overhaul of career and technical education at the release of a report from the Pathways to Prosperity Project, which is based at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Duncan will address roughly 100 education leaders during his remarks at the release event today, Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 10:40 a.m.
