Ted Mitchell, the Department's new Under Secretary of Education, will give keynote remarks at a symposium, Postsecondary Access and Completion for All: Latinas/os in America's Future, at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, in New York City. He will discuss the Administration's higher education agenda and its importance to the Hispanic community.

Sponsored by the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics (WHIEEH), in partnership with the Postsecondary Education Subcommittee of the President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics (Commission), the two-day symposium will bring together some 100 policymakers, educators, and stakeholders for discussions focused on three key areas: the community college completion agenda, workforce development, and the Administration's college/university rating system now under development.

At 1 p.m. on Monday, June 9, Alejandra Ceja, executive director of WHIEEH, will provide a progress report on the administration's work that corresponds to the postsecondary education recommendations developed at the commission's 2012 symposium.

At 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, Marco Davis, deputy director of WHIEEH, will discuss the President's My Brother's Keeper initiative and its relevance to the theme of the symposium and significance for the Hispanic community.

The goal of the symposium is to develop a specific set of policy recommendations for President Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan.
