The White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics Executive Director Alejandra Ceja will participate in a roundtable on early learning at the Instituto Nueva Esuela (INE) and deliver keynote remarks during the Kinesis Foundation’s Bright Stars College Access Program graduation ceremonies. Both events will take place on Friday, June 20, in Puerto Rico.

The roundtable with parents, teachers and other educators will focus on efforts to improve the academic outcomes of Puerto Ricans through improved professional development and training of teachers and principals at public Montessori schools. Ceja will discuss the President’s equity and opportunity agenda, including his proposed Preschool for All initiative and Preschool Development Grants, as well as efforts to recruit top talent to the teaching profession, increasing accountability of teacher preparation programs and re-engaging communities in their schools. Her keynote remarks at the graduation ceremony will highlight the Administration’s commitment to increasing pathways of educational opportunities for Latino students, including college access and completion.

President Obama’s Opportunity for All: My Brother’s Keeper Blueprint for Action recently released report outlines a set of initial recommendations to expand opportunities for boys and young men of color, including ensuring all children get a healthy start and enter school ready to learn.
