Event Date 1: September 30, 2013 01:00 pm - 03:00 pm
U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will discuss the administration's first-term education investments, highlight the hard work and innovative ideas he has seen in schools across the country, and outline the Education Department’s work ahead at 1 p.m. ET on Monday, Sept. 30, during a National Press Club Speakers' Newsmaker Event in Washington, D.C.
During President Obama's first term, Secretary Duncan led the administration's efforts to make new investments in education with new programs like Race to the Top, Promise Neighborhoods, a redesigned School Improvement Grants (SIG) program, and a dramatically expanded Pell Grant scholarship program for low-income students. The administration also has granted No Child Left Behind waivers to 41 states and the District of Columbia, in exchange for state-developed plans to prepare all students for college and career, focus aid on the neediest students, and support effective teaching and leadership.
Secretary Duncan will take questions following his remarks. The event will be livestreamed on the National Press Club website.
