Under Secretary Martha Kanter to Address National Summit on Transformative Change in Teacher Preparation

U.S. Under Secretary Martha Kanter will address the National Summit on Transformative Change in Teacher Preparation at 9:45 a.m. PST on Monday, February 14, at the National Academy of Sciences West Headquarters in Irvine, Calif. She will discuss the need for innovation and reform in teacher preparation programs and discuss the Administration’s teacher education initiatives.

Secretary of Education to Champion Teach for America's Work During 20th Anniversary Summit

Education Secretary Arne Duncan will highlight the work Teach for America has done to narrow the achievement gap during his keynote address at the organization’s 20th Anniversary Summit on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 4:45 p.m. The event, which is expected to draw thousands of teachers, education leaders and officials, will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

'National Conversations' on English Learner Education to Begin Thursday in Dallas, Chicago

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced a series of "National Conversations on English Learner Education" designed to learn what's working and what needs improvement in the instruction of students with limited English skills. Senior U.S. education officials will be on hand for interactive meetings in six cities, beginning Thursday and Friday in Dallas and Chicago.

Department Official to Visit Students in 61st Class of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy

Jim Shelton, assistant deputy secretary for the Office of Innovation and Improvement, will visit the 61st class of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) in Ft. Bliss, Texas on Tuesday, Feb. 8 to talk about education issues for the children of military families. The academy’s students are enlisted military sergeants who are being prepared for the highest enlisted rank, Sergeant Major.
