Event Date 1: June 30, 2010
Charlie Rose, U.S. Department of Education’s general counsel, and Kevin Jennings, Department assistant deputy secretary, will consult with tribal officials Wednesday to gather feedback on education matters affecting American Indians.
The consultation, to be held at the Navajo Nation’s Department of Dine Education in Window Rock, Ariz., is an outgrowth of President Obama’s Nov. 5, 2009 Presidential Memorandum and Executive Order 13175, which directs agencies to develop a plan of actions for providing regular and meaningful consultation and strengthening of government-to-government relationships with Indian tribes. In addition to listening to education issues of concern, Rose and Jennings will provide updates on efforts in Congress to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
