Event Date 1: July 12, 2012 08:00 am - 09:30 am
U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Tony Miller will hold a discussion session at William Peace College in Raleigh, N.C. on Thursday, July 12 from 8-9:30 a.m. ET. Miller will meet with business and education leaders to discuss education issues including reform and the need to make college affordable and accessible for all students.
To strengthen education, the Obama administration has launched innovative programs like Race to the Top, the Investing in Innovation fund, and the Promise Neighborhoods initiative, which encourage educators to use data to enhance their classroom instruction and accelerate student learning. We have encouraged the creative use of technology to increase equity and access to high quality education. We are investing in courageous leadership at the local level and taking to scale best practices that are closing achievement gaps and raising the bar for all students. The administration is also undertaking initiatives to make college more affordable and costs more transparent, as part of a larger effort to achieve the President's national goal to once again lead the world in college completion by 2020.
