BALTIMORE—Alberto Retana, U.S. Department of Education's director of community outreach, will visit Baltimore Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 28-29, to meet with students, parents and teachers. His visit is part of the Department's efforts to engage these groups and use their feedback to inform federal policies on turnaround strategies for low-performing schools, enhance family engagement to support student achievement, improve graduation rates, and advance the President's national goal of leading the world in college completion by 2020.

During his two-day visit, Retana will host a town hall with middle, high school and college students on college readiness, visit several schools that are using innovation and technology to enhance learning, and hold discussions with teachers and parents on classroom instruction, student readiness, curriculum, technology and other issues.
