Event Date 1: October 29, 2013 10:00 am - October 29, 2013 12:00 pm
Nadya Dabby, the U.S. Department of Education’s acting assistant deputy secretary of innovation and improvement, will participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony for Eagle Academy Public Charter School’s Eagle Center, which is a green state-of-the-art facility, on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in Washington, D.C. During brief remarks, she will congratulate the school on opening a new, green facility and encourage faculty to keep up their hard work serving students.
In 2011, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced the creation of the Green Ribbon Schools program to recognize schools that are creating healthy and sustainable learning environments, and teaching environmental literacy. The awards program is run by ED, with the support of the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Green Ribbon Schools program reflects President Obama’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing energy efficiency, and preparing today’s students for jobs in fields that provide clean energy solutions. The program is modeled after the Department’s Blue Ribbon Schools Program, which annually honors public and private schools that are either high performing or have improved student achievement to high levels.
