U.S. Department of Education Officials to Speak at Historically Black Colleges and Universities National Conference

The U.S. Department of Education's Deputy Secretary Tony Miller and Under Secretary Martha Kanter will deliver remarks at the 2010 National Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Week Conference Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 13-14, at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Russlynn Ali will participate in a panel discussion at the conference on Tuesday, Sept. 14. In addition, President Obama's Domestic Policy Advisor Melody Barnes and House Majority Whip U.S. Rep. James E. Clyburn will speak, as well as other U.S Department of Education and HBCU officials.

The annual HBCU conference will take place Sept. 12-14 during National HBCU Week, which is Sept. 12-18. The conference is a key forum for the Administration to discuss critical issues facing HBCUs and to assist them in continuing to provide an academically enriched and supportive environment for students. On Feb. 26, President Obama signed an executive order renewing the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
