Melody Musgrove, director of the U.S. Office of Special Education (OSEP), will give the keynote address at the annual Mississippi Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) conference on Thursday, Feb. 3 in Natchez, Miss. Musgrove will discuss OSEP's current activities and provide insight into the resources and support that OSEP and its grantees can provide to the field. As director of the Office of Special Education Programs, Musgrove oversees administration of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which ensures America's 6.6 million children and youth with disabilities the right to a free appropriate public education.
The theme for this year's conference is "Taking Special Education to New Heights." Conference participants will include special education teachers, local special education directors, district administrators, students and parents.
