U.S. Department of Education Assistant Secretary and Senior Advisor to Participate in Educational Testing Service Symposium "The Family: America's Smallest School"

U.S. Department of Education Assistant Secretary Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana and Senior Advisor for Early Learning Jacqueline Jones will deliver remarks on Monday, Oct. 18, at an Educational Testing Service (ETS) symposium entitled "The Family: America's Smallest School" in Washington, D.C.
The symposium will gather researchers, policy experts, educators and practitioners to explore the status and role of the family in education. Dr. Meléndez de Santa Ana will discuss the Administration's focus on family engagement to support student achievement, improve graduation rates, and work towards meeting the President's national goal of once again leading the world in college completion by 2020. Dr. Jones will be joined by Anna Hinton, director of Parental Options and Information, to provide an overview of the Department's efforts to recognize the importance of the family as an educational institution in federal programs.
