Event Date 1: September 18, 2013 08:30 am - 01:00 pm

U.S. Under Secretary of Education Martha Kanter will give opening remarks at the National Summit on Hispanic Early Learning in Miami on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 8:30 a.m. The summit, which is being convened by the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics (WHIEEH) and its Presidential Advisory Commission, will bring together some 150-200 educators, business and nonprofit leaders, research experts, and Hispanic stakeholders to discuss the President's Preschool for All proposal and its importance for the Hispanic community.

Hispanic children represent the fastest growing segment of the nation's population under the age of five, but less than half are enrolled in any early learning program. President Obama has called for preschool for all to increase the chances for educational success and to level the playing field between Hispanic students and their peers.

Kanter will also participate in the media availability at 1 p.m., along with Roberto Rodriguez, Special Assistant to the President for Education, The White House Domestic Policy Council, and Alejandra Ceja, Executive Director of WHIEEH, and others.
