Under Secretary of Education Martha Kanter will deliver the commencement address during a ceremony at St. Philip’s College in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. Kanter will join the college’s president, Adena Williams Loston, and the Board of Trustees in conferring 975 associate degrees and certificates to graduating students.
During the commencement address, Kanter will share her community college teaching and administrative experiences and how they have impacted her role with the Department of Education. She will also focus on the value of community colleges and encourage graduates to continue their education and training.
St. Philip’s College was established in 1898, and today has an enrollment of more than 11,000. The community college serves a diverse student body, holding a dual designation as a Historically Black College and a Hispanic Serving Institution, and claims a No. 1 ranking as the school that graduates the most at-risk students in Texas.
