Two Senior Department Officials to Serve on Panels at U.S. News Stem Solutions Conference in Texas

The Education Department’s Camsie McAdams, senior advisor on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Education, and Johan Uvin, deputy assistant secretary for vocational and adult education, will serve on two different panels at the U.S. News STEM Solutions Conference on Tuesday, June 18, in Austin, Texas.  McAdams will participate in the keynote discussion, “The Great Debate: Are We Moving Too Slowly?” at 2:15 p.m. CDT, which will cover a range of topics from education standards to increasing underrepresented populations in STEM to the growth of online education. Uvin will participate in the panel “Upgrading Vocational Education: Technical Training for the 21st Century” at 4:15 p.m. CDT, which will focus on best practices, workforce development and emerging innovations in vocational, adult and career and technical education related to the STEM fields. of science, technology, engineering and math.

The conference is bringing together more than 2,000 leaders and visionaries from education, business and industry, and government to advance the agenda for national change in STEM education, policy and workforce development. The Obama Administration’s 2014 budget is proposing a comprehensive reorganization of Federal STEM education programs, which includes a $150 million request for STEM Innovation Networks and $80 million for STEM Teacher Pathways, as well as others new STEM initiatives.
