The Spring Public Meeting of the President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. ET on the campus of Miami Dade College in Miami, Fla. Eduardo Padrón, commission chair and president of Miami Dade College, will deliver welcoming remarks at the daylong gathering.

The 27-member commission meets twice a year as a full committee to discuss key topics relevant to the Hispanic community. The panel advises President Obama and U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan on issues important to the Latino community, from cradle-to-career.

For Tuesday's gathering, the commission will discuss 2014 priorities and hear from Jorge Neri, White House associate director for the Office of Public Engagement, on engagement priorities and opportunities for Latinos. In addition, officials from Univision will be on hand to discuss their efforts in early learning and higher education.

Among the commission's subcommittees are ones that focus on the following areas:

  • K‐12 Education – increasing high school graduation rates among Hispanic students, and increasing the number of Hispanic and bilingual teachers.
  • Postsecondary Education – increasing rates of postsecondary completion among Hispanic students.
