Richard Culatta, director of the Office of Educational Technology (OET) will visit Atlanta June 27-29 to participate in several events as part of the 2014 International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) conference.

Today at 2:30 p.m. ET, Culatta will provide an update on President Obama’s ConnectED initiative, as well as seek feedback from top district technology leaders on the Department’s forthcoming technology infrastructure toolkit for schools. ConnectED is designed to enrich K-12 education for every student in America by empowering teachers with the best technology and the training to make the most of it and empowering students through individualized learning and rich, digital content.

On Saturday, June 28 at 4 p.m. ET, Culatta will open the ConnectED Showcase, hosted by the State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA). The showcase is designed to increase awareness of some $2 billion in private sector commitments available to schools in support of the ConnectED initiative.

At 8 a.m. ET on Sunday, June 29, Culatta and OET Deputy Director Joseph South will lead an ED roundtable meeting with the directors of ed tech from each state, hosted by SETDA. Later, at 12:45 p.m. ET, Culatta and South will host the ISTE conference session “Keep Calm and Connect All Students.” This session will provide information about OET’s programs and initiatives and seek feedback on national educational technology strategy. Specific topics to be covered include ConnectED; the White House Student Film Festival; Future Ready Schools: Technology Infrastructure Toolkit; Online Professional Development Checklist; and the Educational Technology Developer’s Handbook.

Culatta will wrap up the events Sunday afternoon by participating in the inaugural Privacy Policy Summit, which is designed to develop an action plan for a common policy to support protecting the privacy of student data. Participants will work on initiatives that simultaneously safeguard student privacy and use data to improve learning opportunities.
