Senior Official to Visit Boston Area, Promote President's 2020 College Completion Goal and Highlight Successful Models of Closing the Achievement Gap

Alberto Retana, U.S. Department of Education's director of community outreach, will visit the Boston area Sept. 21-22 as part of a national outreach to spotlight successful efforts to close the achievement gap and advance the President's national goal of leading the world in college completion by 2020.

On Sept. 21, Retana will first visit schools in Boston and Providence, R.I., and later that afternoon lead a National Youth Listening Tour at the Harriet Tubman House in Boston. The Department is leading the listening tour to engage high school and middle school students on the President's 2020 college completion goal.

On Sept. 22 in the morning, Retana will visit English High School in Jamaica Plain, Mass. In the evening, he will host a forum for families and community groups at Bunker Hill Community College in Boston, where he will emphasize the Department’s expanded efforts to engage youth, families and communities in improving the nation's schools.
