Senior Official to Participate in Summit that Focuses on Closing Job Market Skills Gap

Acting Deputy Secretary of Education Jim Shelton will give remarks at the inaugural Close It Summit on Thursday, Nov. 7, in Washington, D.C. Shelton will discuss the importance of innovation, not only in technology, but in new approaches to education and training across life and career. He also will highlight the need for individual skills to develop as rapidly as the changing demands of the job market.
The three-day summit, which began Nov. 5 and runs through Nov. 7, is aimed at closing the job-market skills gap and bridging the opportunity divide in this country. The event will bring together business and education leaders, human resource practitioners, workforce and youth development innovators, social impact organizations, and policy experts. Participants will hear key issues shaping workforce policy and industry engagement, and learn about industry-led initiatives and non-traditional affiliations and funding opportunities that are building workforce skills to meet the demands of 21st-century jobs.
