Deputy Assistant Secretary for Rural Outreach John White will visit Tennessee next week to host a White House Rural Council roundtable discussion in Greeneville on Monday, July 18, before giving remarks at the Southeast Regional Rural Education Summit on Tuesday, July 19 in Nashville. White will speak with rural educators and community leaders during Monday's meeting, organized by the Office of U.S. Congressman Phil Roe and the Niswonger Foundation.

White will also visit Greeneville High School and South Greene High School and hear from school leaders who are participating in the foundation's Northeast Tennessee College and Career Ready Consortium, which is supported by a federal Investing in Innovation (i3) grant. Niswonger is working with a consortium of 15 local education agencies in Appalachia to expand access to rigorous courses and provide new resources on college preparedness, college access, and the application process via college counselors.

At the Southeast Regional Rural Education Summit, hosted by Tennessee SCORE, White will join rural educators, administrators, policymakers, and other stakeholders to highlight best practices in rural education and discuss national education policies and programs.
