Michael Robbins, the U.S. Department of Education’s senior advisor for nonprofit partnerships, will lead a workshop and deliver keynote remarks at the Tennessee Conference on Volunteerism and Service-Learning in Franklin, Tenn., on Tues., Feb. 28. In his workshop at 9:15 a.m. CT, Robbins will inform participants about “Together for Tomorrow,” a new initiative to spotlight and foster partnerships among schools, families, national service programs, and community-based organizations to support improvement of the lowest performing schools. He will tell participants about the genesis and development of the program and how they can participate.

Robbins’s remarks at noon CT will also focus on “Together for Tomorrow.” Through this effort, the Department is working with the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships and the Corporation for National and Community Service to change the relationship between schools and community partners, both faith-based and secular, and help these partners move from education outsiders to education insiders. The initiative will also promote a community culture where education improvement is viewed as everyone's responsibility.

The Tennessee Conference on Volunteerism and Service-Learning: Serve. For a Change., aims to increase service and volunteerism across Tennessee as a means of problem-solving throughout all stages of life. The conference will encourage service leaders and participants to collaborate to address needs in Tennessee while utilizing service and service-learning as a vehicle for change.
