U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will deliver remarks at the U.S. Conference of Mayors 79th Winter Meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at the Capitol Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. The annual meeting brings together mayors and city officials, business council members, representative of non-profit organizations and federal agency representatives to discuss an array of issues affecting cities across the country including job creation, health care, transportation and education. This year's meeting will be presided over by Conference President Burnsville Mayor Elizabeth Kautz and will focus on job creation and improving the economy. In his remarks, Duncan will address the role mayors play in improving the education system and the role that education plays in promoting urban economic growth.
