U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will deliver a lecture at the William J. Clinton Center in Little Rock, Ark., as part of the Frank and Kula Kumpuris Distinguished Lecture Series on Wednesday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. CDT. Secretary Duncan's lecture will address current topics in education reform and the administration's back-to-school education agenda.
The Frank and Kula Kumpuris Distinguished Lecture Series was established with the gift by Dr. Dean Kumpuris, Dr. Drew Kumpuris and Katherine Ann Kumpuris Trotter in honor of their mother and in memory of their father. Dr. Frank Kumpuris, a prominent Little Rock physician and surgeon, served for 10 years on the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees and Kula Kumpuris has been actively involved in numerous civic, charitable and community activities. The lecture series seeks to generate dialogue about public service, current events and world affairs.
The Frank and Kula Kumpuris Distinguished Lecture Series has hosted numerous prominent speakers since its inaugural lecture in 2007 by former President Bill Clinton. Past speakers include former Secretary of State James Baker, T. Boone Pickens, former Secretary of State Madeline Albright, and civil rights activist Marian Wright Edelman.
The lecture series is presented in partnership by the William J. Clinton Foundation, University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service, and AT&T. The audience will include local government officials, Clinton School and Clinton Foundation supporters, and Clinton School of Public Service students.
