Secretary Duncan, Mayor Gray to Welcome Incoming Ninth-Graders to School at D.C.'S Eastern High

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will join District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray and D.C. State Education Superintendent Hosanna Mahaley in welcoming incoming ninth graders at Eastern Senior High School Monday in Washington.

Secretary Duncan and Mayor Gray will greet students, tour parts of the school building and speak to a student assembly, spotlighting Eastern's turnaround and commitment to college- and career-preparation.

The D.C. school system is using $618,010 from a U.S. Department of Education School Improvement Grant to help Eastern improve its graduation rate and increase the number of students who graduate prepared for college.
