U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will address the 101st annual national convention of the NAACP Wednesday at the Kansas City Convention Center. Secretary Duncan will spotlight President Obama's agenda for school reform and the valuable role that community leaders can play in closing the achievement gap and promoting educational excellence.
Also at the convention, Assistant Secretary Russlynn Ali, who heads the department's Office for Civil Rights, will join leaders of other government civil rights offices in a panel discussion on the enforcement of the nation's civil rights laws and how NAACP members and branches can aid those efforts. That discussion begins at 9:30 a.m. at the convention center.
