On Monday, July 24, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will commemorate National Parents Day by traveling to Chicago, Illinois, to attend the #EducateUS National Parent’s Day Cook Out hosted by Hustle Mommies where he will meet and speak to parents about the importance of bringing their voices to the table at their children’s schools. This event will take place following Secretary Cardona’s keynote remarks at the 2023 UnidosUS Annual Conference.

The Hustle Mommies nonprofit is a movement that serves Black moms in the Chicagoland area that provides resources for moms to lead in their homes, families, businesses/careers and communities. The #EducateUS National Parents Day Cookout is a celebration of Black and Brown parents who work hard for their students to have the best educational experience. The Hustle Mommies #EducateUS program was designed to help urban students and their families advocate for equity and resources for education.

The event will take place at the National A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum, a 28-year old cultural institution located in Pullman National Historical Park, Chicago's first National Park Service site designated by Barack Obama in 2015. The museum is the first and only Black Labor History Museum dedicated to the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, America's first Black Labor Union to receive a Charter under the American Federation of Labor. The Museum is dedicated to preserving and interpreting this history for the next generation for all walks of life while currently establishing the world’s first Black Labor Tourism District with the expansion of the Museum installing the Jesse Jackson Civil rights wing.
